"If you're not making someone else's life better, then you're wasting your time."
One of my favorite quotes ever. I think we all have a few of those quotes or sayings that are just stuck with you, and constantly in the forefront of your mind; for me, this is one of them. I have always had a natural compass and inclination to help others. Sometimes I don't always have the best strength or talent for everybody, but I think it's important to do what you can. Maybe it's just a phone call to check in, offering your time and resources at a local soup kitchen or shelter, financial support, mentoring and teaching, helping on a board, maybe it's helping raise awareness and other outside support. What matters is that your contribution is making a concerted effort to empower, enrich, and better someone else's life.
We've all received help from others, and I think it's our duty to some degree to pay it forward, and I am proud to believe that. I firmly maintain that in giving we receive, and that it's a joy and fulfillment unlike any other. Sometimes it gives us a different lens or perspective on our own lives, and you find out that you have more in common with others than you originally thought, and find out you're luckier and healthier than you originally thought. You might also find out, like I did, that helping, giving, and donating, is one of the best things in life.
Where and how to begin...
I mean, to love and to be loved, right? I wouldn't be who I am or where I am, without the love and support of family and friends. I think you're lucky in life if you have 1 true friend, and 1 true love. I am beyond blessed to say I am engaged to the love of my life and cannot wait to be married and start a family. I have a truly amazing family, and an incredible group of friends.
I've been on top in life, and I've also fallen and needed help getting up. You can see and feel some amazing things in life on both ends of the spectrum, and the main thing that is always reinforced is perspective, and those who love you will always be there. When life is tough-- dig deep, be tougher, give it your best, and don't be ashamed in help, we all need it. In receiving help, you're more apt to give it. When life is good, share it, inspire others, and lead. Saver it, smile, laugh, and be thankful.
All I can say is, I've never been more excited to live my life, and I thank you all. God Bless.
